Fall 2006 Special Community Seminars
SEPTEMBER
"Freedom from Smoking 2006" an eight-session class to kick the tobacco habit. Classes will be held Sept. 9, 12, 19, 26, 28 and Oct. 3, 10, and 24 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the hospital's East Campus, 150 Via Merida, Westlake Village, CA 91362. Program cost is $50.00 for all 8 classes and for class materials. No cost to Los Robles Hospital employees. Reservations required by calling 805-370-4515.
"Free Prostate Cancer Screening" for men ages 40 to 80 years of age with no previous prostate cancer surgery and not currently under the care of an urologist. Screening includes a blood draw for PSA and digital rectal exam by a certified urologist. It will be held Saturday, September 16th from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon at the Los Robles SurgiCenter, 2190 Lynn Road, Thousand Oaks, on the hospital's campus. "Understanding IMRT Radiation Therapy for Prostate Cancer" with guest speaker Paul Miller, M.D., radiation oncologist. This free seminar is scheduled for Wednesday, September 20th at 7:00 p.m. at the hospital's East Campus, 150 Via Merida, Westlake Village, at the corner of Via Merida & Lakeview Canyon Road. OCTOBER
"8th Annual Free Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar" with guest speakers oncologist Harry Menco, M.D., radiologist Barry Klein, M.D., and radiation oncologist Paul Miller, M.D. Don't miss this popular annual event scheduled for Saturday, October 7th from 8:45 p.m. to 12 noon at the Hyatt Westlake Plaza Hotel, 880 S. Westlake Blvd., Westlake Village. Listen as these experts dicuss the latest in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer, and have your personal questions answered after the lecture. NOVEMBER
"Managing Liver Cancer and Pancreatic Cancer" with guest speaker surgeon Walid Arnaout, M.D. This free seminar is scheduled for Tuesday, November 7th at 6:30 p.m. at the hospital's main campus at 215 W. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks. Reservations are required by calling 805-370-4515.
"Look Good. Feel Better" is a free program specifically designed to teach women in active cancer treatment how to restore their self-image and cope with appearance-related side effects of cancer. Co-sponsored by the hospital and the American Cancer Society, the program will be held Monday, November 13th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the hospital's East Campus, 150 Via Merida, Westlake Village, on the corner of Via Merida and Lakeview Canyon Road. Prostate Cancer Support & Education Group
Date: 1st & 3rd Wednesdays of the month
Time: evenings at 7:00 p.m.
Location: East Campus of Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center, located at 150 Via Merida, Westlake Village CA.
Meetings are free and open to men and their partners. Join us in supporting the newly diagnosed as well as the long-term survivors. Come to learn and share your experiences with others. Stroke Support Group
Date: Every Wednesday of the month

MATERNITY EDUCATION CLASSES
Maternity Orientation - Our maternity orientation is designed to acquaint expectant parents in their third trimester with the services and philosophy of our Special Deliveries Program. During the orientation, you may have the opportunity to visit the Women and Children's Pavilion, hear about the hospital's approach to maternity care, and ask questions of our maternity staff. We encourage you to leave small children at home. Pre-registration by mail is required. No charge. Held in Classrooms A, B, & C on the Main Floor. 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. on the following Saturdays. A Childbirth Overview
The staff of the Women and Children's Pavilion is pleased to offer a series of three consecutive classes to help prepare you and your partner for childbirth at Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center. You are invited to attend our Childbirth series for $25.00 per person/couple at 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on the Main Floor of the hospital.

Childbirth 101 - Having a Baby - Whether a first-time parent or a veteran, attending this class will help you understand the stages of labor, comfort and relaxation techniques, and the management of normal labor and birth. BRING A PILLOW. Part one of a three part series.
Childbirth 102 - Labor & Birth - Become informed about the many variations and issues concerning labor and delivery from back labor to cesarean births. Comfort, relaxation, and breathing patterns are continued from Class 101. Interventions such as pain medications, epidurals, labor induction, and other procedures will also be discussed. Childbirth 103 - Survival Skills - After baby is born, you'll experience many physical and emotional changes that affect you and baby's Dad, too. Learn how to handle those overwhelming feelings of parenthood, and what role the whole family plays. A brief review of the prior classes will also be given. BRING A PILLOW. Cesarean Section Preparation Class
Parents will learn what to expect both before and after the birth of their baby by cesarean section. Hospital procedures will be explained and partners will learn how they can fully participate in this exciting event. Held from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in Classrooms A & B on the hospital's Main Floor. Your Newborn and You
The Amazing Newborn - Join this class in your third trimester to learn about your newborn's behavior, physical appearance, and daily care after you go home - including diapering, dressing, handling and bathing. Infant/Child CPR - If you take any class, take this one! Our American Heart Association Pediatric Basic Life Support course is designed to prepare parents and other caretakers to respond appropriately in an emergency. Classes also offered in Spanish.
